Biography
Adam Levin has lived in the Philadelphia area all his life. At the age of 5 he began taking art classes at the Cheltenham Art Center, and has enjoyed drawing, sculpting and painting ever since then. A graduate of Lafayette College and an MBA from Drexel University, Adam spends his days working in business finance, but takes time out to pursue his artistic passions. He took sculpture classes at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia, and has been continuously studying painting at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford PA, the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill PA as well as the Wayne Art Center in Wayne PA. Adam also studied with several artists in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where he enjoys spending part of his summers. His paintings are all experiments in color, composition and texture which create figurative and color field abstract imagery. His work has been exhibited in numerous local galleries and art centers.

Artist Statement
I create art for the enjoyment of the artistic process as well as the art itself. My paintings are experiments in color, composition, and texture. I try to create a balance and harmony of both geometric and organic shapes using bright bold colors contrasting with dark and muted ones. Use of freeform lines is intended to give both movement to my paintings as well as structure and cohesion. Combined together, I try to create a sense of visual energy and excitement which is pleasing to the eye and stimulating to the mind. Many of my paintings begin as figurative images, but most get abstracted beyond figurative recognition. Others begin purely abstract and may evolve into a more recognizable figure or structure. I don’t visualize the end result… I often struggle to put my left brain aside and let my imagination take control of the paint brush to resolve visual conflicts and hopefully create something which is rewarding. This often requires many layers of paint editing and cancelling mistakes of prior paint layers. I leave hints of prior layers in my paintings which I feel add interest and beauty. Some may be just a slight hint of color at the edge of a canvas. I am influenced and inspired by artists such as Picasso, Klee, Kandinsky as well as many contemporary abstract artists such as Joan Michelle, Bill Scott, Gustavo Rivera, and Kassem Amoudi. I am also inspired by the artists who I paint along side of in a studio classroom. I continue to learn with each painting. |
