Adam Levin has been a lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, with a deep-rooted passion for art. He began at the age of five taking classes at the Cheltenham Art Center and has enjoyed drawing, sculpting, and painting since then. A graduate of Lafayette College with an MBA from Drexel University, Adam has worked in business finance most of his life while remaining dedicated to his artistic pursuits. He took sculpture classes at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia and painting classes at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford PA, the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill PA, and the Wayne Art Center in Wayne PA. Adam has also studied with several artists in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where he travelled to for many summers. Adam’s paintings are dynamic experiments in color, composition, and texture, blending figurative elements with abstract color fields. His work has been exhibited in numerous local galleries and art centers.
I create art for the joy of both the process and the final piece. My paintings are experiments in color, composition, and texture. I strive to balance geometric and organic shapes through bold, vibrant colors contrasted with deep, muted tones. Freeform lines bring both movement and structure, working together to create a sense of visual energy and excitement that is engaging to the eye.
Many of my paintings begin as figurative images, though most evolve into abstract compositions beyond recognition. Others start as pure abstraction and may gradually take on a more defined form. I rarely envision the final outcome…my challenge is to quiet my analytical mind and let intuition guide my brush. Resolving visual conflicts often requires layering, editing, and canceling previous marks, yet I embrace these remnants, believing they add depth and intrigue. Sometimes, a mere hint of color at a canvas’s edge tells part of the story.
I primarily work with acrylic paint, often applied to canvas with a palette knife or even directly from the tube. I frequently work on multiple paintings at once, allowing ideas to flow between canvases. My influences range from masters like Picasso, Klee, and Kandinsky to contemporary abstract artists such as Joan Mitchell, Bill Scott, Gustavo Rivera, and Kassem Amoudi. I also find inspiration in the creative energy of the artists I paint alongside in the studio classroom. With each painting, I continue to learn, evolve, and push my artistic boundaries.
